UNDP In Kuwait Organizes Semina

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Environment Public Authority Law enacted in 1996 is obsolete; hence, the need to amend it and to strictly monitor people who pollute the environment, says MP Dr Ali Al-Omair. Al-Omair made the statement in a seminar on the quality of air and its management in Kuwait, as part of the Kuwaiti project for comprehensive management of the environment. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Kuwait organized the seminar, in collaboration with the Environment Public Authority (EPA). According to Al-Omair, the seminar will enhance certain visions and aspirations that demand amendment of the current environmental laws. He asserted the National Assembly encourages local manufacturing, while promising that the authority will never go against the interests of companies as long as they adhere to the regulations to maintain healthy environment and human beings. He pointed out that relocating manufacturing plants will not solve problems, so the goal should be to ensure strict compliance with environmental regulations and to prepare necessary studies to regulate conditions in those establishments. He added, "In the National Assembly, we discussed the investment law generally, so we amended certain aspects of investment. The Parliament is ready to overcome any obstacle blocking attraction of foreign investors into Kuwait in order to allow them to invest in several areas, including the environment-related projects. However, those investments should not be detrimental to the interests of the country and its citizens."
