(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) As part of its Onam celebrations Lulu Hypermarkets, the region's largest retail chain, held a Sweet Onam Payasam' contest.
The contest was held at its outlets on the September 12 and the entries for the contest started pouring in from September 1.
The contest had two rounds - the first was a screening round, followed by the final.
A panel of judges as well as the customers present at the venues tasted Payasam samples to choose the winner. The winning recipes were by Shirly John for soya chunk milk payasam, Dr Ranjeeta Sarangi for rice payasam, Jenitha for dates and badam payasam, Shabana Sathar for pineapple payasam, Prazeeniya Nishad for mixed fruits and vegetables payasam and Rathi P Menon for kadalapparippu payasam.
Speaking at the event, Ananth AV, regional director, Lulu Hypermarkets, Oman said,'' Onam is a festival celebrated with a lot of fervour by our customers and it is one of those unique festivals that are celebrated with most number of cultural elements like the vibrant flower decoration and the lavish food preparation. The payasam contest is Lulu's way of showcasing that celebration and festive spirit while letting our customers indulge in some great preparations.''
Apart from the contest that was a lot of fun and excitement, Lulu had also put together a string of Onam specific products for a special promotion that offered its customers maximum value and convenience. Many customers were seen stocking up on all the ingredients required for the sadya which were available at a bargain.
Also on offer was discounts on Eastern branded products and a Preethi mixer grinders.
