UAE- Maid jailed for murder bid on housewife

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A maid who hit her sponsor's wife with a hammer after learning that she was planning to cancel her residence visa, has been sentenced to one year in prison to be followed by deportation. The Court of First Instance also ordered the 28-year-old Indonesian maid, who has been accused of premeditated attempted murder, to pay Dh1,000 as fine. According to prosecution records, the maid attacked the housewife with a hammer from the kitchen. The housewife, a 33-year-old Jordanian, tried to protect herself and eventually she snatched the hammer from the maid and escaped from the room. By then her husband returned, and a neighbour called the ambulance and police. The wife said in the investigation that the incident happened on November 19 last year when her husband went out to drop their son at a nearby school. She was lying down when she felt the presence of someone else in her room. She was taken by surprise when she got hit by a hammer on the left side of her head. She soon realised that it was the maid. The maid kept hitting her with the hammer all over her body and the victim could not scream as her jaw got broken. The maid then tried to strangle her with her hands and pressed on her jaw to stop her from screaming. When the one€"and-a-half year old daughter of the house woke up and entered the room, the wife got scared for her. She somehow kept her daughter from the maid and took the hammer from her. When the husband came back, he dragged the accused out of the flat. The complainant recounted that the maid went mad after she had heard them talking about cancelling her residence visa and sending her back to her country.
