Dubai utility enhances efficiency of transmission network


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) is moving forward with a series of planned projects to develop, install and launch new substations in different areas of Dubai. The move reflects Dewa's goal to enhance the efficiency of 400kV Static Var Compensator transmission networks by adopting the latest technologies and introducing state-of-the-art equipment at a total cost of Dh236 million. Dewa is also adding five new 400kV series reactors at a total cost of Dh370 million. Dewa recently launched a major 400kV substation at a total cost of Dh410 million, nine new 132kV substations, at a total cost of Dh1.113 million, further strengthening Dewa's electricity transmission network. "To enhance Dubai's leading position in the region, and as a global economic, financial, and tourist destination, and in line with its mission to become a sustainable world-class utility, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority works on many levels to enhance efficiency, and reliability," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa. "We have several projects under construction, including a 400kV main transmission station at a total cost of Dh500 million, 400kV overhead cables at a total length of 114km at a cost of Dh285 million. We are also working on 17 new 132kV substations at a cost of Dh1,600 million, as well as 132kV ground cables over a total length of 209km, at a cost of Dh1,400 million. We expect to start work on eight new 132kV substations, which is still the tender submission stage," added Al Tayer.
