(MENAFN Press) The committees of the 3rd Arab Women Sports Tournament, which will take place in the Emirate of Sharjah from 2-12 February 2014, have held their third meeting at the Sharjah Ladies Club.

The 10-day tournament will be held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family affairs and Chairperson of the Sharjah Ladies Club.

Chaired by Nada Al Naqbi, Chairperson of the Executive Committee and Manager of the Arab Women Sports Tournament, the meeting has approved thirteen venues to host the training and competitions of the participating clubs.

The committees also approved seven different forms of athletics to be contested by the clubs during the tournament, namely Basketball, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Shooting, Fencing, Archery, and Track and Field.

Sports teams representing most of the Arab countries will take part in the Women's Tournament, which is held every two years. The teams nominated to participate in the 2014 tournament will be announced later.

The competitions contested by the participating teams will be conducted at sport training gyms at 11 venues in the Emirate, which are: the Higher Colleges of Technology in Sharjah, Al Shaab Sports Club, Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped, Al Manar School, Al Andalus School, American University in Sharjah, Sharjah Ladies Club, Al Dhaid Sports Club, Wasit Youth Centers, and the University of Sharjah, the competitions will be held on the mentioned grounds in addition to Al Shaab Club, bringing the total number to 12 grounds allocated for competitions.


Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee, said, "Organising this tournament falls in line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and with the close follow up and directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs and Chairperson of the Sharjah Ladies Club."

"Sheikha Jawaher has always stressed on the importance of supporting Arab women and their various activities, and therefore Sharjah Ladies Club is ready to make this tournament a success thanks to the Emirate's unlimited support for Arab women's sports and its ongoing support for Arab women to achieve excellence and occupy leading position in various events and arenas," Sheikh Khalid added.

Commenting on the meeting, Nada Al Naqbi, Chairperson of the Executive Committee and Manager of the Arab Women's Tournament, said, "The committee heads' meeting was fruitful as the latest developments in the tournament were discussed. We expect that this edition of tournament will be more successful and outstanding than ever before. We appreciate and thank all those involved for their efforts and invaluable roles in making the upcoming tournament a major success, which will undoubtedly help to increase the Arab women's sports record of excellence and achievement."

During the meeting, the attendees discussed the latest developments and updates by the committees of the Arab Women Sports Tournament, including the outcomes of the Communication Committee, which has already finished the booking procedures for the Arab Tournament's location, while working on activating online participation forms by the beginning of October and providing the website with pictures of the previous Arab women tournament and all its related information. The Communication Committee will also soon embark on setting the calendar detailing the scheduling regular meetings with other committees and the distribution of duty assignments.

The attendants then listened to a report by the Technical Follow-up Committee and approved programming the system of the shooting Hall at the Sharjah ladies Club for the 10-metre shooting range. The committee also contacted the Emirates Archery Association with regard to assigning a coordinator to keep in contact with the Technical Committee.

They also discussed the specific needs of certain sports facilities, such as the Al Thiqah Club for Handicapped, which is expected to get a Photo-Finish system used to determine the results of competitions.

The Technical Follow Up Committee suggested that the final fencing duel will be held in a heritage area in Sharjah to be selected by the Communication Committee in line with procedures followed in world championships and other international competitions.

The attendees also agreed to stay in touch with the representative of the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare to speak with sports associations and federations concerned with the Arab Tournament to provide them with their needs as soon as possible. In addition, they discussed the need for securing coordinators of the national federations with Arab unions regarding technical regulations and panels of the athletics and the Federation of Olympic Committees so as to be approved and circulated to the organising country.

On another note, the attendees discussed safety and security requirements in delegate accommodation sites, sports facilities, and competition venues, among others. Three security plans have been approved in order to facilitate complete control over the Arab Tournament's course of events. These include a traffic regulation plan, a plan to ensure the safety of sports facilities, and a third plan to ensure the safety of visiting delegates. These plans will be carried out in an agreement with the competent authorities in Sharjah.

Points listed by the Doping Control Committee were reviewed and a plan to combat the use of performance-enhancing substances was endorsed and a specific date for an awareness and training workshop on how to detect steroids was set. Female athletes will be trained on how to detect performance-enhancing drugs and the issue will be also highlighted in the delegate guide. They also agreed to organise a training and awareness course on detecting steroids for the players of the Sharjah Ladies Club.

During the meeting, two reports by the Logistic and Public Relations Committees were also discussed and the necessary recommendations were taken.

The meeting was attended by Khalid Al Hussain, representative of the General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare, Saeed Al Ajil, representative of the Sharjah Sports Council, Nora Al Shamsi, Deputy Manager of the Arab Women Sports Tournament. Also attending were Reem Bin Karam, Chairperson of the Communications Committee, Nawal Al Shaibani, the committee's deputy chairperson, and committee member Hadi Subaih. In addition, Thuraya Jalal, Chairperson of the Financial Committee, Amina Al Marzouqi, Deputy Chairperson of the Financial Committee, Amina Al Shanasi, Chairperson of the Public Relations Committee, and Ahmed Al Hammadi, the Deputy Chairman.

The meeting was further attended by Khalid Salim Al Aswad, Deputy Chairman of the Security and Safety Committee, Ibtisam Musallam Al Reyami, member of the Security Committee, Abdul Aziz Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Doping Control Committee, Rehab Al Toumi, Chairperson of the logistics Committee, Nora Al Hamr, Chairperson of the Sports Teams Committee, Awatif Al Halabi, Coordinator of the Technical Follow-Up Committee, and Khawla Mohammed, head of the Secretarial Committee.
