(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) The Directorate for Combating Infiltration at the Directorate General of Operations has said that 558 infiltrators are currently detained at various police commands and at the infiltrator detention centre in Samail.
These include 129 infiltrators of Asian and African nationalities arrested last week in collaboration with other security agencies.
The process to verify their identities is on in coordination with their respective embassies and in accordance with legal procedures applicable in the sultanate and international conventions governing the issue.
Besides, 20 infiltrators were deported last week.
97 theft accused held last month
Ninety-seven theft accused were arrested in August, an ROP official has said.
The arrests were made in cooperation with citizens and residents.
The ROP has thanked the public for its contribution in combating such crimes and has asked to take precautions to secure property and valuables.
Eight arrested in raids
Eight Asians were arrested for prostitution and violating Telecommunication Law, in raids carried out in Suwaiq and Khabourah in North Batinah.
Five accused, including three women, were arrested from a house in Bidiyah in Suwaiq during a swoop by officials from the Directorate of Inquiries and Criminal Investigations and Khabourah police station.
Three others were arrested on charges for selling calling cards illegally. Money from the crime was also seized.
