UAE- Reckless drivers caught, cars seized

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dubai Police have caught a number of reckless drivers, some of whom were driving on the wrong side of the road and at speeds of up to 200 kilometres an hour. The Dubai Traffic Police said they received complaints from several road users about a group of youth driving cars and bikes without abiding by traffic laws, obstructing traffic, driving on the opposite side of the road and causing chaos in Dubai's Al Khawaneej area. According to a Dubai Police spokesman, police patrols rushed to the site and the support police patrols spotted two drivers in their Honda and Hyundai cars moving on the main road and endangering road users on Al Amradi Road. The patrols spotted them while coming from Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Khawaneej Road. The two cars started racing from Al Khawaneej roundabout in the direction of University City. The cars were too close for comfort and were racing and being driven in an erratic manner at high speeds until they reached speed radars when the drivers suddenly braked and dropped their speed, before accelerating and driving away. The cars headed towards the Dubai ring road and were caught by the police who had set a trap. The first driver confessed that he drove at 160 kilometres an hour, while the second driver admitted that he committed risky violations. The police seized the two cars on the spot and issued tickets to the two drivers. In another incident, the police caught the driver of a Nissan Patrol for risky driving and causing chaos on Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed road and Al Aweer road. The police on receiving a complaint, rushed to the site and spotted the Nissan Patrol being driven at high speeds of up to 180 kilometres. The police did not stop or chase the cars to avoid endangering road users and only registered the car's number and issued fines in absentia. On Saturday, the police contacted the driver to inform him that his car would be seized for reckless driving and endangering lives of road users. The car driver cooperated with the police and confessed that he had driven the car at high speed, sometimes even more than 200 kilometres per hour. He also took his car to the Dubai Traffic department which immediately moved it to the police seizure area.
