UAE- Pharmacy assistant accused of selling drugs illegally

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A pharmacy assistant has been charged by the Court of First Instance with possession of 1,200 tramdadol capsules for trafficking. The 34-year-old Indian was arrested on January 15 following a tip-off that he was selling tramadol pills illegally and without medical prescription. An anti-narcotics police officer testified in the prosecution investigation that they were informed about the defendant's plan to sell drugs to one of their informants. The officer, accompanied by a unit, went to Al Muraqqabat and kept the pharmacist and the defendant under close watch. "As planned, the informant walked into the pharmacy and came out shortly after. The defendant then walked outside, went behind the pharmacy and came back with a plastic bag in his hand," the officer said. The informant was spotted entering the pharmacy and exiting within few minutes carrying a bag. The officer then signalled to his unit to begin the raid. "We arrested the pharmacist and seized the money, which he had just collected from the informant and which belonged to the Dubai Police." The police then made the accused lead them to his house nearby to conduct a thorough search for any medical pills. A large quantity of drugs was found inside a bedroom closet. The capsules were wrapped in paper. The police seized the drugs and referred the pharmacist to the Narcotics Department. According to the crime lab report, as many as 1,200 capsules were seized from the defendant and they contained tramadol.
