(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is working in full swing on an integrated network of roads that will cope the size of traffic in the Jumeirah Lakes Towers Area and curb traffic jam by the end of this month.
Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Safety, RTA, said that the ongoing project is RTA's response to the JLT traffic congestion due to road works. "The area will also be connected to the Shaikh Zayed Road and the Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road via more than one point. These works fall within the parallel roads improvement projects. On completion, an integrated network of roads will be provided that go with the size of traffic in the area," Maitha said.
Travel by bus, win
The Public Transport Agency at the RTA launched a promotional campaign under the theme 'Your Seats Make you Win Prizes' to encourage people to use bus to travel through the cities of Dubai and other emirates.
Mohammed Al Ali, Director of Buses at the RTA's Public Transport Agency pointed out that the Authority continuously seeks to introduce and implement the best and most distinctive campaigns which contribute to strengthening its strategic missions mainly encouraging customers to use public transport especially buses, as it provides a variety of services like intercity transportation. The buses are equipped with comfortable seats that ensure tranquility, convenience, comfort and safety and it also safeguards the environment.
"During the course of the campaign which will last until next December, weekly and monthly withdrawals are being done on the cards that have been purchased by Dubai's bus passengers," said Al Ali. The draw included 10 Movie Tickets for VIPs, 5 Nol Cards, one Galaxy S4 mobile, as well as a monthly draw for an airline business class travel ticket to a specific destination, stressing that the passengers who made Dubai bus their means of travel deserve the awards.
She added that the work at this area is in full swing to finish the task as soon as possible to reduce the traffic jam. "Parts of this project will be inaugurated by end of September but the entire project is scheduled to finish up by the end of the year. During this period of time, all roads and bridges will be inaugurated in phases."
Earlier on Monday, the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), the master developer, sent an e-mail to Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) residents urging them to pool cars, use the Metro, stagger their work hours or avoid traveling during peak hours to ease traffic congestion in the area.
"We have been advised that there will be several road diversions in JLT as the RTA road networks are nearing completion ... it is likely that the congestion will continue in the coming days. We therefore suggest, wherever possible, motorists consider making alternate arrangements when travelling to and from JLT," the e-mail said.
The same e-mail also advised motorists coming to the area to leave their cars at the Nakheel Harbour station and use the free golf cart service to enter the community.
DMCC also suggested alternative routes for JLT commuters, including Clusters O €" W: Exit towards Abu Dhabi or Dubai by turning left in front of Cluster G, proceeding towards Emirates Hills; Clusters D €" M: Exit Shaikh Zayed Road via the South side of the development (Jebel Ali side); Clusters N, A, B, C: Exit via Almas Road towards the South side of the development (Jebel Ali side).
