(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Two men have been remanded in police custody for forging as many as 42 hygienic certificates required for renewing company licences.
The men, an Asian and an Arab, provided fake public hygienic standard compliance certificates to trading companies in Musaffah so that they could get their trading licences renewed.
The Public Prosecution received a complaint from the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City that a number of companies in Musaffah were continuing to operate despite not meeting public health standards.
The investigations showed that the companies had obtained hygienic certificates from the two defendants.
It was not proved that the companies involved knew the certificates were fakes.
The officials at such companies testified they were convinced by the defendants, who said they could issue the required certificates in return for money, without need to meet the public health standards set by the Abu Dhabi municipality.
It was also found the Arab defendant had a criminal record for previously engaging in fraudulent activities and forgery.
The Public Prosecution warned individuals and companies of the consequences of trying to flout laws and bypass them in a fraudulent manner, as offenders might risk a legal punishment.
