Kuwait- Hearing For Women In Funds Scam Set For Sept 26

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Court of Appeals presided by Justice Salah Al-Houti has set Sept 26, 2013 to look into an appeal filed by a group of Kuwaiti women with others who are accused of misappropriating public funds through falsification. The Criminal Court had earlier sentenced one of the owners of the company to 10 years imprisonment with hard labor for faking employment of 150 citizens in his company to benefit from the fund which has been established by the government. The court had also sentenced 19 Kuwaitis to seven years imprisonment each including one woman who was never registered in the company. She was asked to pay KD 1,000 to suspend the sentence until a final verdict is issued. The other accused were ordered to refund the money - between KD 800 and KD 2,500 - they had received illegally. Meanwhile, the Court of Appeals refrained from issuing a verdict against 131 citizens and instead ordered them to pay a guarantee of KD 1,000 and sign a pledge of good conduct for two years. One hundred and fifty citizens were fined double the money they took illegally from the fund which has been established to support the unemployed.
