(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Overseas Trade Offices (OTOs) of Dubai Exports (DE), the export promotion agency of the Department of Economic Development (DED), Government of Dubai, are playing a significant role in enabling UAE-based exporters to establish their presence in strategic foreign markets and in connecting them with buyers as well as export facilitators in those markets.The OTO in Saudi Arabia has helped UAE exporters conclude transactions worth over Dh363 million between 2010 and the first quarter of 2013, while the Mumbai-based trade office in India is looking ahead to even busier days having connected more than 300 potential buyers to exporters in the UAE during the first quarter of 2013.
India is the UAE's largest trading partner with bilateral trade growing from $43 billion (Dh157, 939 billion) in 2009 to $75 billion in 2012.
"Our overseas trade offices have produced significant outcomes in terms of familiarising UAE-based exporters with promising foreign markets and encouraging buyers in these market export competitive products through Dubai," said Saed Al Awadi, chief executive officer of Dubai Exports.
"The overseas offices are a major enabler in the networking, knowledge-sharing, promotion and business development assistance that Dubai Exports provides to local and overseas businesses looking to establish cross-border supply channels," added Al Awadi.
A series of initiatives launched by Dubai Exports in Saudi Arabia helped UAE exporters connect with 222 potential buyers in the kingdom between 2010 and Q1, 2013.
During this period 286 matchmaking programmes between UAE suppliers and Saudi buyers were also hosted by Dubai Exports while the India office has hosted 10 such sessions during the first quarter of 2013.
"In addition to bringing local exporters and importers face-to-face, our offices abroad also provide various ground services such as helping exporters meet import requirements as well as seeking government-level intervention to facilitate goods movement as and when required," said Mohammed Ali Al Kamali, director of exports market development at Dubai Exports.
Meanwhile, the Dubai Exports office in Egypt is currently in the process of surveying the market for opportunities.
The overseas offices present the export capabilities and sector-wise strengths of UAE firms in their host countries and seek to serve as a one-stop shop for importers looking at Dubai as a source market.
