One third of world's food wasted per year

(MENAFN) The UN food agency said that one third of the world's food gets wasted causing USD750 billion losses annually, Saudi Gazette reported. Food in the developed countries goes to waste mainly due to careless consumer behavior, while in the developing countries, food is wasted mainly through poor harvesting techniques, the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) said. "One third of the food produced today is lost or wasted... equivalent to the gross domestic production (GDP) of Switzerland," said the organisation's director general, Jose Graziano da Silva.
