UAE- Couple held for stealing mobiles worth Dh153,000
(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Sharjah Police arrested on Sunday a man and a woman who specialised in mobile phone thefts using tricks and swindling methods to cheat their victims.
The pair, apparently in love, had stolen mobiles worth Dh153,485 from two different companies.
M.S.A. and M.R.S. carried out thefts by convincing their victims that they are investors in the field of mobile phones, and ordered large number of mobiles phones from trading companies working in the same field. When the companies sent their representatives to the suspects' fake residence to deliver the goods and receive the money, the suspects would disappear after telling the representative to wait as they had to withdraw the cash from their ATMs to make the payment for the delivery.
A top CID officer said the duo played different tricks to cheat their victims including the two companies. The woman would call the company and pretend as an investor in the field in the mobile phones and that she needs the goods to be delivered to her residence. They would also hire furnished apartment for one day to use it for their crime.
A police team was formed and based on the information provided by the victim to identify the suspects started investigating the matter. The team found out that the couple were lovers and were residing in a furnished apartment in Ajman. In coordination with the Ajman Police, the couple was arrested and investigations revealed that they are staying in the country illegally.
