Bombing Targets Oil Pipeline in Yemen

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) An explosion ripped through a major crude oil transport pipeline in the province of Marib in eastern Yemen, Yemeni government source said. The source said in a statement that tribal militants exploded a pipeline in Kilo 40 in Wadi Ubayda, setting it on fire. The statement added that the bombing also led to the halt of oil pumping through the pipeline that connects oil fields in the area of Safer to the Red Sea port of Ras Isa in western Yemen. The pipeline was repeatedly exploded since the beginning of 2011, causing a halt of crude oil pumping and incurring Yemen losses of up to USD 15 million. A report issued by the Central Bank of Yemen last week, has warned of the seriousness of the economic situation in Yemen due to the continued decline in the government's share of value and volumes of oil exports.
