Kuwait- MPs Call For Emergency Session To Discuss Syria


(MENAFN- Arab Times) A number of lawmakers demanded the parliament to hold an emergency session to study the preparations taken by the government to confront the side effects of the possible US military strike on Syria, reports AlJaridah daily. They indicated that the meeting held with Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee over the issue is not sufficient, stressing the importance of the parliament cooperating with the government to ensure the precautionary measures taken in this domain is void of any attempt for personal or electoral benefits. MP Ouda Al-Ruwa'ie said he heard from the media about the precautionary procedures and emergency plan that the government prepared. He stressed that the lawmakers have to ensure the existence of a realistic emergency plan to confront the consequences of any war that could be waged in the region. Meanwhile, MP Mohammad Tana bid for holding an emergency session to discuss the current developments in the region under the possibilities of a war, indicating that the government should enlighten the parliament about the precautionary preparations taken in this regard to reassure the nation. He also bid the lawmakers who are overseas on vacation to return quickly to finalize the preparations of holding the emergency session, stressing that the government has to cooperate with the lawmakers in this regard so that the citizens feel assured about the existence of an actual emergency plan. In addition, MP Humoud Al-Hamdan stressed that the governmental preparations must be in consideration of the latest developments in the political arena, adding that he supports the idea of holding an emergency parliamentary session. On the other hand, MP Majed Mousa rejected the need for holding such a session, indicating that the issue is related to the security of the nation due to which it must be discussed only with the concerned authorities behind closed doors without involving the media or any electoral and personal interests. The Ministry of Information has devised a plan and established a special team to follow up on developments within the Middle East, said an official Saturday. Undersecretary at the Ministry of Information, Salah Al-Mubaraki told KUNA that the ministry's plan was devised last week. He indicated that the Information Ministry would coordinate with other sectors of the state to ensure that the plan was successfully carried out. The cabinet held an extraordinary session Thursday and tasked a special team to follow up on regional events and activate contingency plans and take necessary precautions to preserve national security and stability. In line with the precautionary measures announced by the government during the weekend, the Ministry of Interior has increased the readiness of its sectors to optimum levels while the security sectors of oil companies have implemented strong security measures, reports AlAnba daily quoting security sources. They revealed that the security authorities responsible for protecting the oil companies had received instructions regarding increasing the inspection procedures on the oil refineries of Kuwait National Petroleum Company in Mina Abdullah, Ahmadi and Shuaiba areas. They said instructions were sent to the security officers guarding and securing the oil centers of Kuwait Oil Company to increase the security guards and intensify the entry and exit procedures for staff and contractors who are authorized to enter the premises. They indicated that the precautionary measures were applied in the three refineries two days ago
