Kuwait- MP Azmi slams MEW over its failure to stop power outages


(MENAFN- Arab Times)  MP Hamdan Al-Azmi has stressed on the need for the Ministry of Electricity and Water to stop incidents of power outage in the country. This phenomenon over the past few days has negatively affected not only the local economy but all spheres of life. He criticized the Ministry of Electricity and Water for punishing people for its mistakes. He blamed the State for failing to upgrade this vital sector and called on the Minister Abdul-Aziz Al- Ibrahim to reveal the facts in respect of transparency particularly since a budget had earlier been allocated to solve the power problem. He said the ministry blames the thieves for power outage accusing them of stealing cables. He asked why the concerned authorities have failed to arrest the thieves because these are not stray incidents. As an example, he talked about the theft of cables from the Doha Power Station and asked why the authorities had failed to arrest these thieves. He pointed out the ministry produces 14,000 megawatts, real consumption is 12,100 megawatt and about 700 megawatt is wasted in the production process. He asked, "Then why should there be planned power cuts in certain areas. He wants to know how long this situation will continue although the country enjoys abundant financial resources. He added every ministry talks about intergraded plans during the summer season but nothing happens in reality. He added, power outage in areas of Kuwait has become a common feature "but no convincing move has been made by the ministry until date to solve the problem." MP Osama Al-Tahous in a parliamentary query to Minister of Information and State Minister for Youth Affairs has asked about the ministry's strategic plans to improve the youth of this country. He explained youths are the real resources of any society. He said a nation progresses on the strength of the youths by satisfying their needs and meeting their aspirations and visions. Al-Tahous said since the Youth Ministry is concerned about such goals, he wants to know what strategy the ministry has adopted and what are its visions and plans for the future. He wants to know about the projects which the ministry has begun implementing and the cost of completed projects and those underway supported by documentary evidence. The lawmaker also wants to know the number, names and designations of senior officials working in the Youth Ministry. On another issue, MP Yaqoub Al-Sane has again presented a draft proposal on the memorization of the Holy Quran as a prelude to inmates to reduce their prison terms. He had presented this proposal last May before the dissolution of the previous Parliament. According to the proposal, the memorization of the Holy Quran shall pave the way for the release of prisoners after cutting short their prison terms. Al-Sane added a workshop in that regard should be held and a points system should be adopted according to parts of the Quran that are memorized. He also called for the formation of a committee made up of scholars from the Ministry of Awqaf in cooperation with the Interior Ministry
