UAE- DHA to start weekly Twitter clinic


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) will host a weekly Twitter clinic every Thursday beginning September, to provide a forum for residents to post several queries on health related issues. The authority has decided to continue the Twitter clinic after its initial success during the holy month of Ramadan. About 300 tweets on health related queries were posted on the DHA's twitter feed during Ramadan and the page has 17, 500 followers. The programme has been extended and will see live Twitter clinics held every Thursday from 9.30am to 11.30am. Every week a team of health experts will discuss different topics related to health and well-being. Residents can post their queries on @DHA_Dubai and the DHA team of doctors will provide an on-the-spot response as well as several health tips and dos and don'ts to lead a healthier lifestyle. Ghanim Lootah, director of marketing and communications at the DHA, said: "The initial response we received during the Twitter clinics that were held during Ramadan was outstanding. We realised that people appreciated immediate responses to their queries and the answers were provided by experts in the field." Lootah said that during September, the clinic will discuss several topics including back-to-school tips for parents. This includes the importance of physical exercise in schools and packing nutritious snack and lunch boxes. This month the DHA will also discuss health tips and the importance of vaccination for Hajj pilgrims and will hold a session on World Heart Day to advocate the importance of awareness from a young age. The next Twitter clinic will take place on September 5 (Thursday) and the DHA will provide Twitter followers with the back-to-school health tips. He said the DHA is keen to utilise Twitter as a medium for health promotion and considers it to be a vital tool to advocate a healthier lifestyle for people living in Dubai. Among the tweets, users posted queries about quitting tobacco, and oral hygiene tips during fasting. The DHA will provide solutions to the problems posted on the twitter feed. Hanan Alshahebi, a UAE national with the twitter handle @hananalshahebi tweeted: "Is it true that quitting tobacco is easier in Ramadan?" In response to her query, DHA tweeted: "Yes, that's absolutely true. Several people have tried and succeeded during the holy month of Ramadan.
