UAE- Woman, daughter reunited after 5 years

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A European mother who has been estranged from her Dubai-based daughter for five years after she left the girl's father has been reunited with the help of the Dubai Police's victim care۬programme. Bur Dubai police station Director Colonel Ali Ghanim said after five years of trying and failing through the court system to get in touch with her daughter, the victim care section of the Bur Dubai police station was able to help. He said that last month, the European woman approached the victim care department when she came to the UAE on a visit visa. She said she was separated from her husband before five years and he had prevented her from talking to or seeing her daughter and all her attempts to see her daughter, who turned 16 years now, had failed. Col Ghanim said that the victim care department started a search for the father who had changed his house and hence the address. Based on some information, the police managed to find out his new house but "in the beginning, he refused to allow the mother to see her daughter saying she left the daughter on her own after she had a dispute with him". After many attempts, the woman's ex-husband agreed to let her see the daughter, but only at the Bur Dubai police station. The mother met her daughter after five years and expressed her gratitude to the Dubai Police as she had been trying for this meeting for five years. Col Ghanim said the Bur Dubai police station had recorded 13 child assault cases including sexual and physical ones during the seven months of the current year, adding that the police station now had a special room for interrogating small children. He said that the victim care section had dealt with 20,728 victims of crimes and traffic accidents last year and managed to amicably settle 37 family disputes.
