(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dubai Police and Unified Ambulance Services in Dubai organised a practical workshop on first aid for 32 students as part of a summer awareness programme named 'ambassadors of care' organised by the Dubai Police's anti-narcotic department in cooperation with its department of community services.
The workshop comes within the framework of social partnership strategy between the Dubai Police and the Dubai Unified Ambulance services aims at spreading awareness and the culture of first aid among school students as well as among community members. The workshop seeks to make first-aid part of the culture of the people and integrate it into their daily lives, as well as also enriching summer with meaningful courses to benefit students.
Professor Mary from the Dubai Unified Ambulance Services provided explanation on the concept of the ambulance and to identify the factors affecting the emergency medical services and tasks of the initial screening. She spoke about the importance of maintaining the airway and breathing of the injured and how to assess the physical situation and health of the patient and the examination methods and first aids in cases of suffocation and obstructive micro-and macro to the airway.
The workshop also focused on ways of giving first aids in cases of burn injuries and how to save patients with diabetes and asthma and victims who suffer bleeding, stroke as well as heart patients and the importance of dealing efficiently with pneumonia for adults and children.
The workshop included theoretical and practical actions that individuals should take at the scene. It also shed light on the first aid that should be provided to the injured before transporting him or her to the hospital, as in many cases the first aid provided to the injured may make a difference between life and death.
At the end of their visit to the Unified Ambulance Services premises, the students saw the vehicles and various aid mechanisms used in the ambulances. The students were also briefed on the services provided to the customers and were given a detailed tour around the institution's departments and divisions.
