(MENAFN - Muscat Daily) Mazoon al Alawi, Oman's only girl participant at the second Asian Youth Games, failed to qualify for the 100m sprint final at the OSC Stadium in Nanjing, China, on Tuesday.
Running in the second semifinal heat, the 16 year old Mazoon clocked 12.61 seconds to finish fifth in her heat.
Philippines' Kayla Richardson won the heat in 12.21s.
China's Manqi Ge was the fastest in the two semifinal heats that featured 16 athletes. Manqi clocked 11.89s.
The top three finishers in the top two heats, followed by the next two fastest, made it to the finals with Singapore's Kugapriya Chandran with a time of 12.40s being the last to seal a spot.
Meanwhile, at Nanjing's indoor facility, Omani swimmers failed to impress as none of the five managed to advance to the next round.
Issa al Adawi finished third in the 100m breaststroke heats with a time of 1m14.98s, while in the 200m freestyle event, the duo of Abdulrehman al Kulaibi (2m06.63s) and Khalid Khalfan al Jahdhami (2m16.50s) ended up fifth and eighth, respectively, in the first round heats.
In the 50m butterfly heats, Nidhal al Harassi (28.68s) came in third, while teammate Mazin al Kulaibi (28.61s) finished at the bottom in his round.
The quartet of Adawi, Kulaibi, Khalfan and Harassi failed to start in the 4x100m freestyle relay.
