European stocks slip ahead of Fed minutes

Europe`s main stock markets declined on Tuesday with investors trading cautiously before the outcome of the U.S. Federal Reserve`s latest monetary policy meeting on worries the United States Federal Reserve may draw back its enormous stimulus plan.

The benchmark index for Europe, the STOXX 600 ended lower by 0.83% to 302.25, and STOXX 50 ended down by 1.25% at 2787.98.

CAC 40 Index

The French benchmark index was covered in red by closing, down by 55.05 points or 1.35% to close at 4028.93. The index opened at 4066.36 recording a high of 4067.90 and a low of 4005.47.

The worst performing shares in terms of subtracted value for the index were led by AXA SA as it plummeted 3.83% to end at €17.32; following was Total SA as it shed 0.95% to settle at €40.68, while coming in third was BNP Paribas SA which slumped 1.49% to close at €49.04.

Meanwhile, no inclining shares were reported.

DAX Index

German equities dropped today as well, as the benchmark index DAX 30 ended lower by 66.26 points or 0.79% to close at 8300.03. The index opened at 8294.87 recording a high of 8319.82 and a low of 8246.19.

Lagging shares leading the index lower where driven by Commerzbank AG that plummeted 3.36% to €7.89; following was Infineon Technologies AG as it lost 2.66% to settle at €6.87 and then came HeidelbergCement AG which retreated 2.47% to €54.42.

As for the shares that ended higher today, they were K+S AG that gained 0.72% to €18.93, followed by Henkel AG which added 0.33% to €76.28 and Bayer AG up 0.30% to close at €87.51.

FTSE 100 Index

The British benchmark index ended the day also in the red to settle at 6453.46 down by 12.27 points or 0.19%. The index opened the day at 6465.73 setting the high of 6465.73 and the low of 6398.63.

Lagging shares were led by Prudential PLC where it ended down by 3.20%, closing at £1148.00; following was Standard Chartered PLC which shed 2.76% to close at £1479.00 and BHP Billiton PLC which slipped 1.66% to close at £1923.50.

As for leading shares that added the most to the index, coming in top was GlaxoSmithKline PLC which advanced 1.03% to close at £1662.00; following was HSBC Holdings PLC which added 0.38% to end trading at £704.20 and BT Group PLC which surged 1.86% to close at £328.20.
