UAE- Restaurant owner cleared of rape bid

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Court of First Instance acquitted the 45-year-old Pakistani manager of the charges of kidnapping and luring the Tunisian woman, who he had met on a social networking site, to his place to have sex with her. He earlier pleaded not guilty in court. A restaurant chain owner has been cleared of attempted sexual assault on a woman in his flat after he allegedly kidnapped her. The defendant allegedly brought the woman from her country to Dubai on an employment visa to work for him. As per the prosecution records, instead of dropping her at the staff accommodation, he took her to his flat where he allegedly made sexual advances towards her asking her to be his girlfriend. The complainant, a 28-year jobless, told the investigators that she understood from the defendant that he thought bad about her and took her for an easy woman. She recounted that they had met on Facebook about four months earlier and that he first offered her a job in administration or marketing. He later told her that she would be working as a waitress or an accountant for a short time. He sent her the travel ticket and visa. He picked her up from the Dubai International Airport in December last year and introduced himself as her sponsor. He then took her to a pizza restaurant which he owned in Jumeirah for dinner. He later took her to his one-bedroom flat in the Marina area where he told her that she would live with him there. "He said that the staff accommodation was not good for me," she claimed. She disagreed and told him that she would live in another place and then return to her country. He calmed her down and told her that she would stay at the staff accommodation. He got closer to her and told her that she would become his girlfriend. "He said I was pretty and asked why I was still single," she said. But as she became hysterical, screamed, pushed him away and warned that she would jump off the window if he went any further, he calmed her down saying that her residence visa would be cancelled and a ticket home would be purchased for her. He then entered his bedroom and left her crying in the living room. He took her the next day to the staff accommodation in Discovery Gardens. The defendant's driver, a 43-year-old Pakistani, said that he was with his sponsor when he welcomed the complainant at the airport. He added that usually, a staff member would be picked up from the airport and taken straight to the staff accommodation.
