Cuba launches new solar farm

(MENAFN) Cuba recently took a step further into renewable energy development with the launch of a solar energy farm, Xinhua reported. The plant, situated 280 kilometers east of Havana in the city of Santa Clara, has 5,200 solar panels with 962 kilowatts per day production capacity. The generated electricity can power 750 homes per day saving 380 tons of oil annually. The first solar farm started operation last April containing 14,100 panels. Cuba plans to open six other farms in an attempt to reduce its dependence on fossil fuel, Ovel Concepcion, an engineer at the Hydropower Company assigned to assemble the panels in the plants, said.
