South Korea's overseas direct investment falls

(MENAFN) South Korean overseas direct investment went down in the first six months of this year, Qatar News Agency reported. The total overseas direct investment for the country reached USD16.22 billion in the first half down from USD21 billion in the same period last year registering a 23 percent slump, a report by the South Korean finance ministry said. In Asia, overseas direct investment went down by 29.6 percent and in the Middle East by 77.7 percent. In North America, it slumped by 32.3 percent and in Africa by 31.3 percent. On the other hand, overseas direct investment increased in South America and Europe by 86.3 percent and 33.1 percent respectively. The plunge is primarily the result of the 57 percent fall in the resources development sector.
