(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The UAE Foreign Affairs Ministry has warned citizens of the UAE not to travel to Lebanon unless it is an absolute emergency, in the wake of the recent troubles witnessed there. Holders of diplomatic, special and regular passports have been urged to stay away from the country until the tense security situation taking place in the region, mainly in Lebanon, has eased. Underlining the guidelines for travel, the ministry said holders of diplomatic and special passports must obtain prior approval from the ministry to travel in minimal and necessary situations. It stressed that people who need to travel to the country should inform the ministry first by calling: 02-4449600. Those holding regular passports, are being told to sign an agreement at the airport taking full responsibility of travelling to Lebanon. Undersecretary of the ministry Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed gave the warning and told UAE citizens already in Lebanon to leave immediately, adding that they have to coordinate with the UAE Embassy in Beirut on the following numbers: 0096118570000 and the operations department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at 024449600. He noted that the warning comes from the ministry's keenness on the safety of Emiratis abroad. Al Hamed called on the citizens to comply fully with this resolution until further notice from the ministry, adding that the citizens should take caution if travelling abroad. He added that they should read the instructions and travel tips on the website of the ministry as well as register on the "My Presence Service" dedicated to the UAE citizens.
