Arabs must stand with Egypt

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  Saudi Arabia called on Arabs on Friday to stand together against 'attempts to destabilise' Egypt, in a message of support for the military leadership. "The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its people and government, stood and stands today with its brothers in Egypt against terrorism," the Custodian of the Two Holy Shrines, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, said in a message read out on Saudi television, in an apparent reference to continuing clashes in Egypt. "I call on the honest men of Egypt and the Arab and Muslim nations ... to stand as one man and with one heart in the face of attempts to destabilise a country that is at the forefront of Arab and Muslim history," he added. "All those who meddle in Egypt's internal affairs are inflaming strife," he said, adding that the North African country faces "a conspiracy of plotters" trying to strike at its unity and stability. Saudi Arabia "has stood and stands with its Egyptian brothers against terrorism, deviance and sedition, and against those who try to interfere in Egypt's internal affairs... and its legitimate rights in deterring those tampering with and misleading" its people, he said. King Abdullah urged the Arab and Muslim world to stand "in the face of whoever tries to destabilise" Egypt. "Those who have interfered in its affairs must know that they are causing sedition and backing terrorism, which they claim to fight," the Saudi King said. Meanwhile, the UAE has fully backed the statement issued by King Abdullah on the current events in Egypt. The UAE underlined that this statement reflects the interest of King Abdullah in the security and stability of Egypt and its people. "It also comes at a pivotal moment regarding the unity and stability of sisterly Egypt, and stems from the keenness of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques on the region's stability. The Saudi statement also reflects consciousness and prudent approach to plots being wreaked against Egypt," said the UAE statement. The UAE seizes this opportunity to stand by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in support of Egypt and its sovereignty. The UAE also supports the call of King Abdullah for non-interference in Egypt's internal affairs. The UAE statement noted: "The resolute position of the Saudi King against those who burnt incense fire for sedition and raising havoc, will be a victory for Egypt, Islam and Arabism. This courageous and rational stance is expected from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques".
