Lawsuit against Samsung for poor work conditions

(MENAFN) Brazil's Amazonas state's labour prosecutors stated they are filing a lawsuit against the South Korean electronic giant, Samsung, Xinhua reported. The prosecutors said that working conditions in the company's plant in northern Brazil are poor and therefore they are going through with the lawsuit demanding a compensation of USD115 million. The lawsuit said that the electronics company, since 1996, was hit with 162 citations due to the absence of safety measures and poor workplace conditions. Last year, 2,018 employees had to stop working as a result of labor-related injuries. Employees at the Manaus plant complained of health issues resulting from having to stand up while working for extended hours and from repetitive-movement injuries. Samsung said that it is willing to provide "a working environment that guarantees the highest industrial standards on safety, health and well being" in cooperation with the Brazilian government.
