UAE- 3 students on trial for robbery

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Three students are facing trial on the charges of robbery at knifepoint, making death threats and impersonating police officers. The students, all Emiratis, two aged 23 and one aged 22, are accused of robbing Dh2,500 and $300 after barging into a flat in the French cluster of International City. They denied the charges in the Court of First Instance. One of the complainants, a Vietnamese worker, 28, told investigators the incident happened on January 28. "It was about 12.30am and I was with another man in our flat which we use for massage services". The three men walked in and posed as officers from the Criminal Investigation Department. "One of them showed us an ID card but I did not get to see it clearly while another took a knife from the kitchen table and put it on my neck." The intruders threatened to kill them if they screamed for help. The flat occupants were then allegedly intimidated to hand over the cash to the defendants. The accused fled and the complainants chased them with two knives and two sticks. The complainants eventually stabbed two of the accused in their back and damaged the car they were driving - and have been referred to the Court of Misdemeanours to face related charges. However, the accused drove off. The accused were arrested after they went to the police station to lodge a complaint against the Vietnamese victim and the other man. "They raised our suspicions that they might be the robbers," testified the corporal. The complainants recognised the accused as the ones who barged into their flat and stole their cash.
