(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The long arm of the law has finally caught up with a police officer 19 years after he allegedly raped a schoolgirl who was only eight then. The victim is a mother of two children now.
On July 15,1994, Emirati mother H.M. informed the Dubai Police that her daughter was raped by somebody when she was returning from school.
She said her daughter, who was in Grade 3, came home late from school, looking frightened and exhausted. She did not answer her mother's queries and went to sleep. When the girl woke up, she told her mother that after she got down from the school bus, a man who was driving a red car approached her and asked her about her father's name and suddenly he pulled her inside the car and drove away.
In a sandy area behind the boundary wall of a school, he stopped the car and raped her. He then dropped her near her house and threatened her of dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident before driving away.
The police noted down the girl's descriptions of her assailant and subjected her to the necessary laboratory tests. However, the police could not catch him even after a long search and the case remained open.
On July 17 this year, the police learnt that a 42-year-officer, M.A., who was being investigated in some other matter, could be the man who raped the girl, who is now 27 and a mother of two.
The suspect's DNA matched with the results of the tests carried out on the evidence found on the girl then and the police arrested the UAE national of Asian origin.
During police interrogation, he denied the accusation. The police called in the victim and her mother and completed the necessary procedures and referred the case to the Public Prosecution for more investigation.
