Pakistan rejects US warning to stop gas pipeline project


(MENAFN) Pakistan will not stop construction of the gas pipeline project with Iran and, in the face of the United States pressure, will continue working on it. Pakistan will go ahead with it and will import natural gas from Iran, as the United States failed to convince it not to do so, Tehran Times reported. John Kerry, the U.S. Secretary of state, warned Pakistan of the possible implications of pursuing the Iran gas pipeline project during his recent visit to Islamabad. However, Pakistan refused the US concerns and stood by its decision to go ahead with the project. Repeatedly, The United States has been threatening Pakistan with economic sanctions in case it follows through gas pipeline project, but the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has no intentions to change its course regarding the contract that was signed by previous government.
