UAE- 10 held, 1,340 bottles of liquor seized from flat

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Sharjah Police, on Sunday, busted a gang of ten Nigerians allegedly involved in bootlegging liquor. The police raided their apartment, seized 1,340 bottles and cans of alcoholic beverages, and arrested them. The arrests were the result of the police's intensified efforts to curb bootlegging which was associated with crimes, illegal practices and violence in industrial areas and Al Sajja, a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer said. He said the department got a tipoff about the activities of the Africans who were selling alcohol in labour accommodation clusters. After confirming the information, the police formed a team of CID officers to search for the suspects and arrest them. The team managed to locate the whereabouts of the gang members who used bicycles to deliver alcohol bottles which they stored in their residential apartment in Sharjah. The officer laid a trap to arrest them red-handed while preparing the bottles for delivery and succeeded in nabbing them. The police warned those who were involved in bootlegging and their customers. The police would not tolerate such people and had intensified efforts to arrest them as their activities were threatening the security and peace of the society, the officer said.
