UAE- Maid charged with putting infant's life at risk

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A 24-year-old housemaid has been charged with putting the life of an infant at risk after she left the girl child alone at her sponsor's house. The Indonesian maid allegedly left the six-month-old baby unattended when she fled the house after stealing an envelope containing Dh17,000. She stood trial in the Court of First Instance on the charges of workplace theft and putting another person's life at risk. The incident happened on April 3 and ever since, the baby had been waking up and crying for no reason, according to her father. The maid's employer's, a 30-year-old Egyptian financial manager, said that day, both he and his wife went to their workplaces leaving the baby with the maid. "My wife forgot an envelope in which there was Dh17,000 in the bedroom. Around 10am, she called the house number and the maid answered to say that she had done all chores required from her and everything was fine," said the father. But his wife could not get hold of the maid later when she called the house several times. "I went to the house as soon as I learnt from my wife about that. My baby was on the ground, flipped on her face with her hat covering her eyes." The baby was in a mess and she burst into tears when her father carried her in his arms. "When my wife arrived, she discovered that the money was gone. It was Dh17,000 worth of loan instalments for the flat we bought in Egypt." The housewife said that the maid did all her job that day and it seemed she did not plan to run away before she saw the money. "She even left her personal belongings." The building's Nepali watchman confirmed seeing the maid grabbing a small bag and leaving in a hurry before the infant's parents arrived. The maid admitted during the police and Public Prosecution investigation that she had left the baby alone on her bed and fled her sponsor's house.
