US Whirlpool reports USD198m profit

(MENAFN) US home appliances maker Whirlpool Corp (WHR) said it made USD198 million net profit during the second quarter, up from USD113 million a year earlier on higher performance in Europe and North America, Reuters reported. The gains were led by big unit sales increases in Europe and Latin America, where revenue rose nearly 6 percent, and the United States, where revenue was up 5.1 percent, the company said. Sales of Maytag and KitchenAid appliances rose 5.3 percent to USD4.74 billion. Whirlpool's focus on margin improvement was reflected in operating profit in Europe and Latin America, which jumped 77 percent and 31 percent, respectively.
