(MENAFN- AFP) US stocks ended mixed Friday after strong earnings from some industrial companies were countered by feeble results from Microsoft and other technology companies.
At the closing bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average finished down 5.41 (0.03 percent) to 15,543.13.
The broad-based S&P 500 added 2.70 (0.16 percent) at 1,692.07, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index fell 23.66 (0.66) to 3,587.61.
With no significant economic reports, Friday's trade was dominated by earnings results.
Although weak revenue growth remains a concern, earnings are "basically on track," said Peter Cardillo of Rockwell Capital Management.
"Companies are still making money in a very modest growth environment with the world economy under pressure."
However, some of the most prominent tech companies faltered.
