UAE- Man jailed for sexually assaulting mentally challenged relative


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) An unemployed man has been sentenced to three years in prison for sexually assaulting his nephew's 17-year-old mentally challenged son in the majlis of his father's house when he was drunk. The 48-year-old defendant, with a Comoros Island passport, is the uncle of the teen's father and had been living with the family for four years. The Court of First Instance convicted him of sexual assault and consuming alcohol and ordered his deportation after serving his time in prison. The court also fined the accused Dh1,000 for drinking alcohol. The boy's father, an Emirati employee, 40, said that his son had down syndrome and was mentally disabled, with no perception or reasoning capability. He was sleeping in his room when he heard his wife shouting and crying. The incident happened on April 13. The a 35-year-old housewife told her husband that she saw the accused sexually assaulting their son in the house majlis and that the defendant fled the house in a panic. On that day, she was looking for her son when she entered the majlis and saw the accused sexually assaulting him. She shouted and fainted because of the shock and the accused ran from the house. Al Muraqqabat police arrested the accused two days later. The verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days.
