China- World's third largest hydropower station is officially operational


(MENAFN) China Three Gorges, the operator of the second largest hydropower station, announced recently that the station is functioning now with its first power generating unit, Xinua reported. The hydropower station named Xiluodu was constructed in the Jinsha River, a major headstream of the Yangtze in southwestern Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, works of construction start 9 years ago and to be completed in 2015 with 18 power generating units with a total generating capacity of 13.86 gigawatts. Xiluodu started to officially operate after 3 day test run, it also begun providing electrical power to the China Southern Power Grid at a capacity of 770,000 kw by the number 13 power generating unit. It's worth noting that the station is considered to be the third largest hydropower station in the world and second in China.
