Koreas Begin Third Round of Talks on Kaesong Park

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency)   South and North Korea began their third round of working-level talks on Monday to discuss the future of an inter-Korean industrial complex. The latest round of negotiations held at the North Korean border city of Kaesong follows talks carried out last Wednesday in which the two sides were unable to produce a deal on detailed measures to reopen the factory zone. The South Korean Ministry of Unification said the first meeting between representatives from the two sides began at 10:08 a.m. and ended at 11:30 a.m. with Seoul and Pyongyang making known their views on how to normalize operations so regular business can resume. The South Korean delegation led by Kim Ki-woong crossed the DMZ at 8:30 a.m. Earlier this month, the two Koreas had agreed in principle to normalize operations at the Kaesong Industrial Complex, which have been halted for more than three months. All operations at Kaesong, north of the heavily fortified Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), were halted after Pyongyang unilaterally withdrew all its 53,000 workers hired by the 123 South Korean plants there on April 9. North had cited as a reason for its decision heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula caused by the South. (QNA)
