Exports by the chamber, mostly to the Arab countries, declined by less than two percent, reaching JD2.33 billion from January to June this year as compared to JD2.70 billion during the same period last year. Iraq, with JD523 million, accounted for the largest chunk of ACI's exports, followed by Saudi Arabia with JD296 million and the UAE with JD111 million. According to the figures, exports to Syria declined during the first half of this year by 40 percent, down to JD27 million compared to JD46 million last year. The figures showed an increase in the chamber's exports to India, reaching JD213 million, followed by the USA with JD163 million. The minerals industry sector topped the list of exports with JD396 million followed by the chemical industries with JD391 million and engineering industries with JD320 million. President of the ACI said the rise in exports reflected the advanced level that the domestic industries have reached and their ability to compete in foreign markets.
