UAE- Manager cleared of bid to bribe police officer

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A 37-year-old manager has been cleared of the charge of offering Dh1,000 to a police officer in return for not taking him into custody. The Court of First Instance found the German defendant not guilty. According to prosecution records, the incident allegedly happened on May 18, 2012 when the police officer stopped the accused for parking his car in the middle of the road for no valid reason near a shopping mall in Rashidiya. "I asked for his driving licence and his car registration card. When he talked to me, I knew he had been drinking alcohol, which he admitted," the officer said. The defendant then allegedly told the officer that he was willing to pay any sum in order to be let off. "Then he took his wallet out of which he pulled Dh1,000. I told him not to do that and took him to the police station," the officer added.
