Man to stand trial for 'killing friend'

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)   The Public Prosecution has referred a 31-year-old man to the Court of First Instance to stand trial on a murder charge. The Asian, identified as R.R. is accused of killing his compatriot friend (also his work colleague and roommate) following family disputes related to the defendant's sister-in-law. Bur Dubai Chief Prosecutor Sami Al Shamsi said the crime happened in mid February and the investigation was carried out by senior prosecutor Ahmed Al Attar. The prosecutor listened to witnesses and quizzed the accused who admitted that he committed the crime. He had been arrested the day following the murder. Investigations showed that the defendant planned to kill the victim over family issues. "The victim wanted to marry R.R.'s sister-in-law and R.R. objected as his wife and sister-in-law inherited a fortune from their family". R.R. allegedly planned to kill the victim and arranged for a sharp tool and a screwdriver and a bag to hide the victim's body. According to prosecution records, R.R. went to see the victim by bus and persuaded him to meet up with him so they could settle their differences. "He took him to a dark location away from any residential buildings so he could commit his crime quietly". They had a verbal brawl, following which R.R. surprised the victim by hitting him with a sharp tool three times on his head. "The victim was knocked down and parts of his skull were fractured. R.R. then put the body in the plastic bag and was to dump it somewhere else". But the defendant realised the victim was still breathing so he stabbed him twice in his neck with the screwdriver to make sure he would not survive. "He then stole the victim's mobile phone and dumped his body on a roadside near under-construction buildings in Nad al Shiba". The forensic report said that the cause of death was a stabbing in the neck and a blunt force trauma to the head.
