UAE to release prisoners on Ramadan


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has ordered the release of 973 prisoners who had been serving different jail terms, on advent of the holy month of Ramadan. Shaikh Khalifa pledged to settle all the prisoners' financial commitments resulting from their court cases. The release comes as part of the President's keenness to give the inmates a chance to start a new life and ease suffering of their families. Shaikh Mohammed pardons 625 inmates His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, has ordered the release of 625 prisoners, on the advent of the holy month of Ramadan. Shaikh Mohammed's pardon covers inmates in Penal and Correctional Institutions in Dubai who have so far served different jail terms. Shaikh Mohammed also instructed the Attorney-General of Dubai, Essam Eisa Al Humaidan, to implement the orders. Al Humaidan said the Dubai Public Prosecution and Dubai Police have already started the procedures for the immediate release of the pardoned inmates. He emphasised that they will reunite with their families in the UAE or abroad on the first day of Ramadan. He also thanked Shaikh Mohammed for his kind initiatives and said they target all people regardless of their nationality, colour or race. Al Humaidan further emphasised that the generous directives by Shaikh Mohammed on taking care of human rights and dignity further promote tolerance in the UAE society which upholds authentic Arab and Islamic values and ethics.
