UAE- Pair jailed for stealing wooden slabs worth Dh39,600


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A labourer, accused of stealing 487 wooden slabs worth more than Dh39,600 from the construction material company where he worked, was sentenced to three months in jail. The 28-year-old Pakistani, M.M., was found guilty of selling the stolen material to his compatriot metal vendor, identified as G.D., 24, was also given a three-month jail sentence for abetting the crime. The Court of First Instance ordered their deportation after serving their jail term. A 28-year-old Chinese sales manager at the Jebel Ali-based construction material company said in January he noticed that 70 wooden slabs worth about Dh5,000 were missing. He asked M.M. and the warehouse keeper, also Pakistani, about the missing material but both denied knowing anything about it. The manager ran a thorough inventory check and found out that the total missing goods were 487 wooden slabs worth Dh39,627. When he confronted M.M. again, the latter admitted that he stole the goods and sold them to G.D.
