(MENAFN- Arab Times) A number of former MPs and political activists had a heated argument, which led to a fistfight, during the memorial ceremony organized Wednesday by Huseiniyat Ahmad Ashour in Bneid Al-Gar in honor of martyr Hassan Shahata and his companions who died in Syria. Several private forces and officers from the Capital Security Directorate were dispatched to the area to intervene between the feuding parties. Eyewitnesses quoted former MP Saleh Ashour as saying that Kuwait is a civil state where freedom of religions and the performance of rituals are guaranteed, indicating Shahata was not a terrorist and he protected his faith in a peaceful way.
Meanwhile, parliamentary election candidates Ahmad Muteeh, Abdullah Al-Tureiji, Al-Saifi Mubarak Al-Saifi and Mubarak Al-Wa'laan said only the leadership can end the conflict instigated by the crisis-provokers who marred the event. Activist Dr Abdullatif Al-Senan added the Kuwaiti voters are totally against attempts to instigate sectarian conflicts to serve political and parliamentary interests, indicating that thousands of Sunnis and Shiites were killed in Syria and a memorial service was held in this country only after opening the door for elections. Furthermore, the persons in charge of the Huseiniyat lodged a complaint at Dasma Police Station, while Attorney Dewaim Al-Muwaizri filed a case at the Public Prosecution against Ashour and others who were involved in the fray. He stressed the need to interrogate the accused and hold them responsible for their acts during the memorial ceremony.
