India- Jiah suicide case: Suraj gets bail

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Bombay high court on Monday granted bail to young actor Suraj Pancholi, pointing out that he cannot be entirely blamed for the 'impulsive' act of actress Jiah Khan, who committed suicide on ۬June 3. Suraj, son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, was in a relationship with Jiah, a US-born actor, who had a few good hits in recent years. The struggling actress, who has not had any major assignments in recent months, killed herself at her Juhu flat. A few days later her mother, Rabiya Khan, told the police that she had found a six-page note, purportedly written by her daughter, in which she had accused an unnamed person of ruining her life. She blamed Suraj for abusing and harassing her daughter, which led her to her suicide. The 22-year-old actor was arrested on June 10 on charges of abetment of suicide on the basis of Khan's complaint. A lower court rejected his bail plea, following which Suraj moved the high court. On Monday, the court granted him bail on a surety of Rs50,000 and also directed him to surrender his passport and appear at the Juhu police station every other day. The court ruled that the letter found in Jiah's room could not be termed as a suicide note. It also noted that Jiah had suicidal tendencies and she was in a relationship with Suraj on her own volition. The 25-year-old Jiah made a mark in Bollywood with her maiden film, Nishabd, in which she appeared with Amitabh Bachchan. She also acted in Aamir Khan's Ghajini, Housefull, a comedy.
