UAE- 477 chosen for Marriage Fund grant

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Marriage Fund announced on Monday a new list of 477 beneficiaries of its Dh70,000 individual grant, which will add up to Dh16.78 million. Dr Maitha Al Shamsi, Director of the fund who approved the grant, said the money had already been transferred to the recipients' bank accounts and that the prospective bridegrooms had been notified through SMSes. She said the grant aimed at assisting young Emirati couples to build a stable, coherent family through cutting exorbitant wedding expenses. She added that high wedding costs remained a headache for many Emiratis thinking of getting married, noting that the fund was planning to raise awareness of parents about these negative aspects of the society. She said the fund was chalking out media plans to educate families about the importance of reducing wedding costs and avoiding extravagant receptions. Founded in 1992 by the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Marriage Fund seeks to provide future spouses with financial support as well as preparing and qualifying them with the skills and knowledge required for the establishment of a coherent and stable family. It also aims to increase awareness of religious, cultural, and social family principles via awareness campaigns across the UAE, and encourage marriages between UAE nationals.
