"Preparations for the holy month of Ramadan started early on in order to meet the needs of citizens with top class standards and it underscores the commitment of the Municipality to care for citizens and serve their needs," said Saif Yahya Al Rumaithi, Head of Foodstuffs Distribution Centres in Abu Dhabi city. The municipality has set specific standards for the distribution of foodstuffs according to the number of family members in-keeping with its social responsibility to deliver best municipal services and ensure the highest standard of living and sustainable environment for the residents of Abu Dhabi city. "The municipality has launched an initiative to offer foodstuffs at discounted rates during Ramadan in collaboration with several suppliers of foodstuffs, and the allocations of June and July have been merged to streamline the buying process during this period so that citizens need not visit the centres during the fasting period," added Al Rumaithi. Services relating to customers such as issue cards and allocations along with the receipt of cash amounts for these commodities have been transferred to the Customer Service Centres at the Municipality in a bid to make the delivery of services to citizens easier. Once a customer completes these procedures, he or she can proceed to the issue point of foodstuffs distribution centres to receive the required items. During the first five months of this year 111,306 transactions have been processed comprising 154,000 bags of basmati rice; 70,000 bags of flour; 200,000 cartons containing different sizes of bottles of Al Ain Water; 130,000 cartons of juices; 20,474,000 cartons of tomato paste; 95,263 cartons of various types of oils; 77,272 bags of sugar; 11,272 cartons of dates and derivatives; and 7,553 bags of harees (traditional porridge made of wheat and meat).
