Kuwait- Ministers sued for graft

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Misdemeanor Court has acquitted a Kuwaiti teenager of stealing KD8,000 from the vehicle of an Arab national. Case files indicate the plaintiff withdrew the money from a bank and put it in his car. When he went home, he parked the car in front of his house but he forgot the money. By the time he remembered that the money was in his car, he found out it was stolen since the vehicle was not locked. It was also mentioned in the case paper that the investigators failed to lift fingerprints from the vehicle because it was washed after the thief took the money. Further investigations led to the arrest of the accused who have been involved in a series of robberies. However, the defendant's lawyer, Attorney Zaid Al-Khabaz, highlighted loopholes in the case. He raised doubts on the claim of the plaintiff, considering the alleged theft was reported eight months after the supposed day of the incident. He also pointed out contradictions in the statements of the plaintiff, so he demanded for the acquittal of his client due to the absence of incriminating evidence. In another case, Abdullah Fayrouz, the Secretary of Political Nibras Movement submitted a petition against the ministers of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Interior, and Information and other officials regarding cases of corruption and misuse of public funds. The petition covered a number of security and administrative cases that were reported in the newspapers including the Ethiopian woman who was deported after she became pregnant through illegal relations with the son of a member of the recently nullified parliament, as well as other cases related to the fines paid by companies for the mistakes committed by their employees.
