UAE- Cook jailed for human trafficking

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times)  A 30-year-old woman cook has been sentenced to five years in prison for human trafficking and forcing a fellow country woman into prostitution. The Court of First Instance also found the Filipina defendant, M.R., guilty of facilitating prostitution by two other female compatriots. The two other women, J.S. and J.V., aged 27 and 35, were sentenced to one year in prison each. The court ordered that all three women be deported after completing their time in prison. The Filipina victim claimed that she was lured to the UAE by M.R. who promised her a hotel job. But when she arrived at the Dubai International Airport, she was taken to a flat which was run as a brothel in Satwa. She was told she would work as a prostitute to pay back her visa and travel expenses. In the statement she gave to the prosecution, she claimed that M.R. threatened to kill her if she did not work for her as a prostitute. She did so for three days before she could escape. She sought the help of her country's embassy. The police raided the flat when they received the complaint. The cook was arrested and the other accused who were working willingly in prostitution were taken into custody as well.
