UAE- Manager convicted of swindlingManager convicted of swindling

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A marketing manager, who embezzled about half a million dirhams from his workplace and left the UAE on sick leave, has been sentenced in absentia to one year in prison. According to court records, the 44-year-old Indian defendant, A.K., embezzled the money on different occasions when he was assigned to settle payments for multiple projects undertaken by other companies. In 2010, A.K., took sick leave claiming he had cancer. The embezzlement was discovered after he left the UAE. He was found guilty by the Court of First Instance of embezzlement, forgery and use of forged documents. A 41-year-old Indian woman accomplice, P.G., has also been given one year in prison for aiding and abetting him in the embezzlement. P.G. earlier appeared in court and denied the charge. Both were sentenced to be deported. The alleged embezzlement took place between 2007 and 2010. A.K. is believed to have forged receipts to deceive his company into believing that he settled the dues and payments as he had been told to. A human resource manager said in the investigation that the discrepancy came to light when they called up a company to enquire about delivery of an advertisement they had paid for. But they were shocked to learn that no such advertisement had been booked for.
